Despite facing numerous economic fluctuations and common challenges, Quảng Ngãi’s socio-economic development in the first eight months of 2026 has recorded impressive breakthroughs. From the vibrant momentum of industrial production and the strong growth in export turnover to the remarkable expansion of tourism, these achievements are creating momentum for Quảng Ngãi to accelerate and strive to successfully achieve its growth scenario in the final months of the year.

INDUSTRY CONTINUES TO MAINTAIN ITS ROLE AS A “PISTON” OF GROWTH

Amid high logistics costs and input material prices, together with fluctuations in international markets, Quảng Ngãi’s industrial sector has maintained a high growth momentum. The Index of Industrial Production (IIP) in the first eight months of 2026 increased by 14.18 per cent year-on-year. Of this, the processing and manufacturing industry recorded the strongest growth, at 15.10 per cent, reaffirming its role as a key pillar of the province’s economy.

Most major industrial products in the province maintained positive growth. In particular, iron and steel production reached more than 6,835.7 thousand tons, up 54.7 per cent; construction bricks reached 288.9 million units, up 16.3 per cent. These results demonstrate the flexibility and proactiveness of the business community in overcoming difficulties, while effectively capitalizing on the accelerated implementation of key infrastructure projects and works across the province.

Alongside industrial growth, the trade and services sector also recorded many positive developments. Total retail sales of goods and consumer service revenue in the first eight months reached VNĐ99,297 billion, up 15.24 per cent. The strongest driver of growth was export turnover, which reached US$2.726 billion, up 41.5 per cent year-on-year and equivalent to 86 per cent of the annual target.

KEY TASKS FOR THE COMING PERIOD: FOCUSING ALL RESOURCES ON THE 9.0% GRDP TARGET

Chairman of the Provincial People’s Committee Nguyễn Đức Tâm gives directions at the meeting.

Alongside the achievements, the Provincial People’s Committee has frankly identified limitations and bottlenecks that need to be addressed promptly. Public investment disbursement remains slow, reaching only 38.2 per cent of the plan assigned by the Prime Minister. Compensation and site clearance for some projects have not met requirements, while delays in processing administrative procedures in some sectors and localities persist.

To achieve the 9.0 per cent GRDP growth target in 2026, during September and the remaining months of the year, the Provincial People’s Committee has requested the entire political system to focus its efforts on the following key tasks:

  • First, closely follow the growth scenario. Specialized departments and agencies, including the Department of Finance, Tax Department, Customs, Statistics, and State Treasury, shall proactively review and closely monitor revenue sources and key growth drivers, providing timely advice on flexible management to strive to achieve or exceed the 9.0 per cent GRDP growth target.
  • Second, accelerate public investment disbursement. Emphasis should be placed on the responsibility of heads of agencies and units, with a focus on removing site-clearance bottlenecks. The West Quảng Ngãi Project Management Board shall accelerate construction of the five Phase 2 border integrated boarding schools during the dry season. At the same time, procedures for strategic transport projects such as the Quảng Ngãi - Kon Tum expressway and the upgrading of National Highway 24 shall be urgently completed.
  • Third, completely resolve the 111 problematic projects. The province shall clearly classify the causes and responsibilities and strive to remove all obstacles from the 111 stalled projects under provincial authority by November 2026.

Chairman Nguyễn Đức Tâm conducts a field inspection of the project.

  • Fourth, create new momentum for key economic sectors. The province shall actively coordinate with central ministries and agencies to advise on special mechanisms for developing the National Refining, Petrochemical and Energy Center in Dung Quất Economic Zone, while implementing the development-space connectivity scheme linking Chu Lai - Dung Quất - Nam Giang - Bờ Y. The agriculture sector shall take decisive action to address the “yellow card” warning related to IUU fishing and strengthen the management and monitoring of fishing vessels.
  • Fifth, strengthen administrative discipline and promote digital transformation. Efforts should be made to streamline cumbersome administrative procedures and strictly handle acts of avoiding or shifting responsibilities. The province shall continue expanding the “Digital Literacy for All” movement and applying information technology to better serve people and businesses. It shall also proactively implement disaster prevention and response measures in accordance with the “four on-the-spot” principle during the upcoming rainy and stormy season.

With the spirit of “Solidarity, innovation, creativity, and emulation to build a prosperous, beautiful and civilized Quảng Ngãi”, Quảng Ngãi is confidently entering the final stretch, determined to turn challenges into driving forces and successfully achieve the socio-economic development targets set for 2026.
