On April 7, Vice Chairman of the Provincial People’s Committee Đỗ Tâm Hiển chaired an inter-agency appraisal meeting on the task of “Adjusting the boundaries and area of Lý Sơn Marine Protected Area.”

According to reports, the proposed adjustment is based on updated development orientations, planning frameworks, and socio-economic strategies of the province and Lý Sơn special zone through 2035, with a vision to 2050, in compliance with current regulations on marine conservation.
The process has incorporated consultations with local communities, relevant departments, and the Ministry of Agriculture and Environment.
The adjustment aims to expand marine space to enhance resource protection, biodiversity conservation, environmental protection, and habitats for marine species, while ensuring alignment with sustainable socio-economic development, improving local livelihoods, and maintaining national defense and security.
Concluding the meeting, Vice Chairman Đỗ Tâm Hiển acknowledged the efforts of Lý Sơn authorities and the consulting unit, emphasizing the necessity of the adjustment.

He requested the consulting unit to promptly finalize the dossier, fully incorporate feedback, and provide sufficient documentation for appraisal.
Relevant departments were urged to actively contribute inputs, ensuring compliance with legal regulations, alignment with approved planning, clear boundary definitions, and assessment of environmental and livelihood impacts.
The Department of Agriculture and Environment was assigned to lead the appraisal process in accordance with regulations.
