QUẢNG NGÃI — A delegation from Quảng Ngãi Province, led by Vice Chairman of the Provincial People’s Committee Trần Phước Hiền, visited Belgium from November 19ᵗʰ to 21ˢᵗ to explore cooperation opportunities in climate-resilient agricultural development.

The delegation met with the Vietnamese Embassy in Belgium, where Ambassador Nguyễn Văn Thảo praised Quảng Ngãi’s achievements in recent years and expressed confidence in the province’s continued strong development.

He affirmed the Embassy’s commitment to supporting Quảng Ngãi in connecting with Belgian partners, sharing information, and promoting collaboration with research institutions, local authorities and enterprises, particularly in smart agriculture, water resources and environmental technology.

The delegation also held a working session with Gembloux Agro-Bio Tech, a branch of the University of Liège with more than 150 years of experience in agriculture, biotechnology and natural resource management.

Gembloux experts presented their key research programmes, while the Quảng Ngãi delegation appreciated the institute’s ability to combine fundamental science with practical applications — especially adaptable models suitable for the Central and Central Highlands regions, which are heavily affected by climate change.

The delegation then visited Terra Research Centre, a unit affiliated with multiple research institutions of the University of Liège.

Experts there shared valuable experience in building soil databases, assessing land degradation risks, and developing agricultural models suited for drought, heavy rainfall and storms.

Both sides expressed interest in strengthening cooperation in research, expert exchanges and technical support for sustainable agriculture.

The working trip also included a visit to the Centre for Agronomy and Agro-Industry of Hainaut (CARAH), a key research and applied-agriculture institution closely linked with local governments and agricultural enterprises.

CARAH representatives introduced its major activities, including research and technology transfer in agriculture, studies on climate impacts on tropical farming, and low-emission cultivation techniques.

The delegation toured CARAH’s experimental farm, which showcases highly applicable models relevant to Quảng Ngãi’s orientation towards developing high-tech and smart agriculture in the coming years.
