Quảng Ngãi approves policy to rearrange administrative units

The 33rd session of the 13th Provincial People's Council, term 2021-2026, approved the policy of merging Quảng Ngãi and Kon Tum provinces, and rearranging commune-level administrative units of Quảng Ngãi province.

On April 28, the 13th People's Council of Quảng Ngãi province, term 2021-2026, held its 33rd session to consider many important resolutions.

In particular, the delegates of the Provincial People's Council reviewed the policy of merging the provinces of Quảng Ngãi and Kon Tum, renaming Quảng Ngãi province and the policy of arranging commune-level administrative units in the whole province.

After consideration, all delegates attending the session voted to approve the Resolutions of the above policies.

After the rearrangement, Quảng Ngãi province will have 56 commune-level administrative units, including six wards, 49 communes, and one special zone of Lý Sơn. There is a reduction of 115 commune-level administrative units compared to the present, reaching a reduction rate of 67.65 per cent.

At the same time, after merging with Kon Tum province, the newly established Quảng Ngãi province will have a natural area of 14.8 thousand km2, a population of more than 2,16 billion people, and 96 administrative units.

The political and administrative center of the new Quảng Ngãi province is located in the current Quảng Ngãi province.

The newly established Quảng Ngãi province is adjacent to Đà Nẵng city, Gia Lai province, Sekong province, Attapeu province of Laos, and Ratanakiri province of Cambodia.

Speaking at the meeting, Bùi Thị Quỳnh Vân, Secretary of the Quảng Ngãi Provincial Party Committee, acknowledged and commended the efforts, proactive spirit, and high responsibility of the Standing Committee of the Provincial Party Committee, departments, sectors, local Party committees, and authorities in developing and completing projects to concretize the major policies of the Central Government and meet the development requirements of the province in the new period.

The Provincial Party Secretary assessed that the newly established commune-level administrative units will facilitate state management, be close to the people, ensure quick and convenient settlement of administrative procedures for the people, and expand new development space, with many advantages in the regions.

Vân requested relevant units to coordinate and quickly complete the project to submit to competent authorities for consideration before May 1 as prescribed.
