The People’s Committee of Quảng Ngãi Province has issued Plan No. 148/KH-UBND on the implementation of poverty reduction targets in 2026, aiming to reduce the province’s poverty rate from 2.5 per cent at the end of 2025 to 1.47 per cent by the end of 2026 under the multidimensional poverty standards for the 2022–25 period.
According to the provincial authorities, as of December 31, 2025, Quảng Ngãi had 13,594 poor households, accounting for 2.5 per cent of the total, and 10,166 near-poor households, equivalent to 1.87 per cent.
The province’s multidimensional poverty rate stood at 4.37 per cent.
Most poor households are concentrated in rural and mountainous areas, where the poverty rate reached 4.09 per cent, significantly higher than in urban and lowland areas.
The province said the current poverty situation reflects multidimensional challenges, particularly in mountainous and ethnic minority areas, as well as among households lacking labour capacity.
Many households continue to face severe shortages in access to health insurance, employment opportunities, sanitation conditions and information services.
Poverty is therefore linked not only to income shortages but also to limited access to and use of basic social services.
Under the plan, poverty reduction efforts in 2026 will focus on two major pillars: improving income-generating capacity and reducing deprivation in each dimension of basic social services based on specific causes and target groups.
The province aims to ensure support is provided in line with actual needs while limiting the risk of households falling back into poverty or becoming newly poor.
The plan also seeks to mobilise the participation of the entire political system, the business community and local residents in implementing poverty reduction targets and fulfilling assigned goals.
Quảng Ngãi plans to maximise and effectively utilise resources from the National Target Programme for the 2026–30 period, while integrating them with other programmes, projects and lawful funding sources to promote multidimensional, inclusive and sustainable poverty reduction.
Support measures will focus on helping poor and near-poor households increase incomes, gradually rise above the minimum living standard and reduce shortages in basic social services in accordance with multidimensional poverty criteria.
The province also aims to effectively implement tasks and solutions for sustainable multidimensional poverty reduction, prevent poverty relapse and improve living standards, incomes and quality of life for poor and near-poor households.
Authorities pledged to ensure that poor people have timely and adequate access to essential social services, including healthcare, education, housing, clean water and sanitation, information access and employment opportunities, while linking sustainable poverty reduction with new-style rural development and socio-economic development in ethnic minority and mountainous areas.
