World Vision Viet Nam (WVV) has implemented the project “Timed and Targeted Counselling Model” in 30 districts in 11 provinces across the country, including Quang Ngai province since 2018. The project aims to advise and promote good practices in healthcare and nutrition during the first 1,000 days of a child's life. Up to now, there are 47,895 pregnant mothers and caregivers of children under 24 months of age joined in the project.
To support the people in reducing the rate of children being malnourished, in the next five years (2023-2027), through the project "the Timed and Targeted Counselling Model”, WVV will continue to accompany local partners, communities and families to support at least 29,550 pregnant mothers and caregivers of children under 24 months old, aiming to reduce infections and diseases in children, thus improving their well-being towards the fullness of life.
According to the statistics, in Vietnam, 22.4% of children under 5 years old are stunted; 12.2% of children under 5 years old are underweight (National Institute of Nutrition, 2019) and only 45.4% of newborns under six months old receive exclusive breastfeeding (UNICEF, 2021). Besides, according to WVV, 25.2% of children under five face acute respiratory infection and only 43.3% of children under 5 with diarrhea receive correct treatment of diarrhea.
Reportedly, since operating in Quang Ngai in 2004, WVV has sponsored many programs and projects in many localities in the province. It can be said that WVV is one of the traditional and long-term sponsors for Quang Ngai province up to the present time. The funding is relatively large, the average value of aid to the province is about 15-20 billion VND/year, accounting for a quarter of the total aid value of foreign non-governmental organizations in the province.
