A groundbreaking ceremony

QUẢNG NGÃI — Quảng Ngãi held a groundbreaking ceremony for the Trà Khúc 1 Bridge project on October 8, marking an important step in improving transport infrastructure and strengthening connectivity across the Trà Khúc River.

The groundbreaking marks the start of a major infrastructure project at a time when Quảng Ngãi is accelerating investment in strategic transport infrastructure to support economic growth and urban development.

The province has identified transport connectivity as an important foundation for attracting investment, expanding urban space and improving links between industrial, commercial, service and residential areas.

The master design of Trà Khúc 1 Bridge

Speaking at the groundbreaking ceremony, Chairman Nguyễn Đức Tâm highlighted the bridge’s distinctive design, featuring a self-anchored suspension structure and three steel rings inspired by the traditional water wheels once used along the Trà Khúc River.

Once completed, the bridge is expected to serve not only as a modern transport facility but also as a catalyst for expanding urban space, creating a new landscape axis along both banks of the Trà Khúc River and becoming a new symbol of Quảng Ngãi.

The Chairman said that with more than VNĐ2 trillion in public investment expected to be disbursed over the next 18 months, together with the development of trade, services and tourism on both sides of the river, the project would provide an important growth driver for the province.

He said the project would contribute to Quảng Ngãi’s goal of achieving double-digit economic growth during 2026–2030 and becoming a growth pole in the Central region.

Chairman Nguyễn Đức Tâm stressed that the groundbreaking ceremony marked only the beginning, while the key expectation of local residents was that the bridge would be completed on schedule and meet required quality standards.

The Project Management Board was requested to take full responsibility for progress, quality, safety and investment efficiency.

It must submit a detailed schedule for each project component and a disbursement plan to the Provincial People’s Committee in October, while providing monthly reports on construction volume, disbursement, manpower and equipment at the site.

The Chairman also called for measures to shorten the construction period and urged agencies to promptly report any difficulties beyond their authority to the Provincial People’s Committee, ensuring administrative procedures do not hold up construction.

The consortium of contractors and supervision consultants was asked to mobilize sufficient personnel, machinery and equipment immediately after the groundbreaking ceremony and organize multiple construction teams, advancing work wherever site clearance has been completed.

Flood prevention measures must be prepared for each construction stage, while occupational safety, traffic safety and environmental protection must be ensured.

The Chairman also requested relevant departments, agencies and localities to regard the project as a shared priority of the province, focusing on ensuring adequate supplies of construction material, allocating capital, completing administrative procedures, handing over the site and organizing traffic arrangements.

Implementation must follow the principle of “six clear requirements”: clear people, clear tasks, clear responsibilities, clear timelines, clear authority and clear results. Heads of agencies or units responsible for delays will be held accountable.

During construction, travel across the river may face some temporary inconvenience. The Chairman called on residents to cooperate with the authorities, follow traffic diversion plans and join local authorities in monitoring project implementation.
