QUẢNG NGÃI — Secretary of the Quảng Ngãi Provincial Party Committee Hồ Văn Niên and Chairman of the Provincial People’s Committee Nguyễn Đức Tâm on August 10 held a working session with leaders of nine border communes in the western part of the province to review socio-economic development and key tasks for the coming period.
The meeting was attended by leaders of provincial departments and agencies and representatives of Rờ Kơi, Mô Rai, Sa Loong, Dục Nong, Bờ Y, Ia Đal, Ia Tơi, Đăk Long and Đăk Plô communes.
At the meeting, leaders of the nine communes reported on Party building, socio-economic development, national defence and security, and external relations since the beginning of the year.
They also raised difficulties and proposed solutions to improve the implementation of local tasks.
The communes have generally made positive progress in socio-economic development while maintaining political stability, social order and border security.
Local authorities have focused on agricultural production and made use of their economic potential and advantages.
Social welfare policies have been implemented in a timely manner, particularly for ethnic minority communities and people living in border areas.
Border forces and local authorities have strengthened coordination in managing the areas, preventing and fighting crime, and safeguarding national sovereignty and border security.
External relations with neighbouring localities in Laos and Cambodia have also been maintained and strengthened.

Speaking at the meeting, Chairman Nguyễn Đức Tâm asked the border communes to take more decisive measures to fulfil their socio-economic targets and tasks.
He urged local authorities to review targets at risk of falling behind and promptly introduce solutions.
They were also asked to accelerate public investment disbursement and improve the management and use of public assets.
For communes implementing boarding schools under the first phase of the programme launched in 2025, he requested close coordination with relevant departments and agencies to ensure construction progress and timely handover.
Communes included in the second phase in 2026 were asked to quickly complete site clearance and related procedures so that construction can begin as scheduled.
The communes were also urged to effectively implement national target programmes for the 2026-31 period, accelerate the 100-day campaign to conduct land surveys and prepare cadastral maps, and strengthen the management of land, minerals, natural resources and the environment.
They were told to proactively prepare for natural disasters during the upcoming rainy and stormy season and strengthen disease prevention and control among livestock and poultry.
Regarding national defence and security, the provincial Border Guard Command, Military Command and Customs force were asked to strengthen coordination in preventing smuggling and trade fraud across the border.

Concluding the meeting, Party Secretary Hồ Văn Niên praised the efforts and achievements of the border communes after more than one year of operating the two-tier local administration model.
He asked the communes to continue strengthening Party building and the political system while focusing on socio-economic development and improving living conditions for local people.
The communes should make better use of their potential in industrial crops, forestry and medicinal plants, while studying opportunities to attract investment in the energy sector.
Effective use of funds from national target programmes should help create new momentum for development in border areas, he said.
Niên also stressed the need to accelerate the construction of multi-level boarding schools in border areas, maintain political and social stability, and closely monitor developments to prevent unexpected incidents.
He called for stronger friendship and coordination with neighbouring localities in Laos and Cambodia, contributing to the building of stable, safe and prosperous border areas.
On this occasion, Hồ Văn Niên and Nguyễn Đức Tâm presented gifts to the border communes and encouraged local authorities to overcome difficulties and successfully fulfil their assigned tasks.
