On the evening of May 30, the Quảng Ngãi Provincial People’s Committee held the opening ceremony of the Quảng Ngãi Sea and Island Tourism Festival 2026 at Phạm Văn Đồng Square in Cẩm Thành Ward.
Delivering the opening remarks, Permanent Vice Chairwoman of the Provincial People’s Committee Y Ngọc, Head of the Festival Organizing Committee, emphasized that Quảng Ngãi possesses more than 130 kilometers of coastline and significant advantages for developing sea and island tourism. In addition to renowned beaches such as Mỹ Khê, Sa Huỳnh and Châu Tân, the province is home to Lý Sơn Island, a “precious gem” distinguished by its unique geological, cultural and historical values.

The close connection between the coastal and island areas and the Trường Sơn–Central Highlands region has also created a diverse tourism ecosystem, offering visitors a wide range of distinctive experiences.
This year’s festival features a variety of highlights, including exhibitions on sea and island cultural heritage, tourism and OCOP product showcases, street fashion and music festivals, artistic kite performances, the Lý Sơn open-sea swimming competition, traditional boat racing events, and numerous cultural and sporting activities held across the province.
Through this series of events, Quảng Ngãi aims to promote the image of its people, culture and tourism potential while strengthening regional linkages, attracting investment and further establishing itself as an appealing destination on the tourism map of Việt Nam and the region.
At the opening ceremony, on behalf of the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism, Nguyễn Trùng Khánh, Director General of the Việt Nam National Authority of Tourism, presented the certificate recognizing the Sa Huỳnh Whale Worship Festival as a National Intangible Cultural Heritage.

The Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism also announced the Provincial People’s Committee’s decision approving the project to develop the Lý Sơn Special Administrative Zone into a national sea and island tourism center by 2030, with a vision toward 2045.
Following the opening ceremony, audiences were treated to a large-scale artistic program comprising three themed chapters, creating an emotional “symphony” that celebrated the culture, people and development aspirations of Quảng Ngãi.
