Vice Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee  Trần Phước Hiền, leaders of the Provincial Police, and the contractor perform the groundbreaking ceremony for the project.

Quảng Ngãi Province on October 28 broke ground on a drug rehabilitation facility in Trà Giang Commune, with a total investment of VNĐ201 billion (about US$8 million), to improve addiction treatment, rehabilitation and support for former drug users returning to the community.

The groundbreaking ceremony was attended by Trần Phước Hiền, Vice Chairman of the provincial People’s Committee, and leaders of the provincial police, departments and local authorities.

Located in An Nhơn Village, the facility will cover approximately 10 hectares and have a  capacity to accommodate 250 residents.

The project is part of a Ministry of Public Security programme to build and upgrade infrastructure and equipment at public drug rehabilitation centres nationwide.

The investment comprises VNĐ101 billion from the Ministry of Public Security’s budget and VNĐ100 billion in support from the provincial budget. The facility is expected to be completed and put into operation in the second quarter of 2028.

Once operational, the centre will provide drug rehabilitation, medical treatment, counselling, vocational training and social services.

It will also support residents’ physical and mental recovery, social reintegration and access to education and employment-oriented activities.

Hiền highlights the project’s role

Speaking at the ceremony, Hiền highlighted the project’s role in improving treatment conditions and strengthening the management, education and rehabilitation of people undergoing addiction treatment.

He called on the provincial police to closely supervise implementation and urged the contractor and relevant units to mobilise sufficient personnel, equipment and machinery to ensure construction progress, quality and safety.

Local authorities and residents were also encouraged to coordinate with the project’s implementing agencies to facilitate construction and enable the facility to begin operations as scheduled.

The project is expected to contribute to more effective drug prevention and control, improve post-rehabilitation support and help build a safer and healthier community.
