Quảng Ngãi– The Quảng Ngãi Provincial People’s Committee has established a provincial committee on people with disabilities to strengthen coordination in implementing policies and protecting the rights of people with disabilities.
The committee will be headed by the Vice Chairman of the Provincial People’s Committee in charge of healthcare, while the Deputy Director of the Department of Health responsible for social protection will serve as deputy head.
Its members include representatives of provincial departments, agencies, mass organisations and associations concerned with disability support and social welfare.
The committee will advise the Chairman of the Provincial People’s Committee on policies and coordinate efforts among relevant agencies and local authorities to address issues affecting people with disabilities across the province.
Its responsibilities include advising on and implementing strategies, programmes and action plans for people with disabilities, as well as implementing the United Nations Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities in accordance with the Prime Minister’s Decision No. 916/QD-TTg dated May 21, 2026.
The committee will also guide, inspect and monitor the implementation of the Law on Persons with Disabilities and related policies on social assistance, rehabilitation, education, vocational training and employment.
Another priority is to improve access for people with disabilities to buildings, transport, information, cultural activities, sports, tourism and other essential services.
The committee will operate collectively, with decisions made by majority vote. Members will work on a concurrent basis, while the Department of Health will serve as its standing agency, providing operational support and coordinating the implementation of assigned tasks.
The establishment of the committee is expected to strengthen inter-agency coordination and improve the implementation of disability policies, helping ensure that people with disabilities can access essential services and participate more fully in social and economic life.
