Vice Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee Trần Phước Hiền inspects the Đắk Mi 1 Hydropower Project.
QUẢNG NGÃI –Vice Chairman of the Quảng Ngãi Provincial People’s Committee, has urged the investor of the Đắk Mi 1 Hydropower Plant to mobilise resources and accelerate construction to ensure the project is completed on schedule and meets required quality and safety standards.
During a site inspection on October 30, Hiền and representatives of provincial departments and local authorities reviewed the project's implementation progress and assessed outstanding construction work.
Located on the Đắk Mi River in Xốp Commune, the project has an installed capacity of 84MW and an estimated average annual electricity output of 299.6 million kWh.
It involves a total investment of approximately VNĐ4.619 trillion (about US$185 million) and covers around 250.63 hectares.
Developed by Quang Đức Kon Tum Joint Stock Company, the project comprises a dam, spillway, water intake, water conveyance tunnel, surge tower, power plant, transformer station and 220kV transmission line.
Construction began in December 2021 but was suspended in December 2024 to address technical incidents as required by competent authorities.
In April 2026, the provincial authorities approved the resumption of construction on the main dam and spillway components.
According to the investor's report, as of October 30, approximately 254,000 cubic metres of concrete had been poured for the dam and spillway, representing 98 per cent of the planned volume.
The concrete works are expected to be completed in November 2026.
The water intake structure and permanent reinforcement of the water conveyance tunnel have been completed, while the surge tower has reached approximately 85 per cent completion. Installation of the first generating unit is basically complete, with work continuing on the second unit and associated systems.
Workers are currently constructing various components of the project.
For the 220kV Đắk Mi 1-Đắk Mi 2 transmission line, foundations for 22 of the 26 towers have been largely completed, while 13 towers have been erected.
The investor aims to complete tower erection and cable installation before November 30, 2026.
The five-kilometre flood-avoidance road has also been completed, with handover procedures to the provincial Department of Construction underway.
Following the inspection, Hiền requested the investor to strengthen construction safety measures, particularly occupational safety, fire prevention and firefighting, and to regularly inspect the site and promptly address potential hazards.
He also stressed the need to complete all outstanding legal procedures before the project is commissioned, including documents related to dam and reservoir protection, water resource protection corridors, emergency response plans and reservoir operation regulations.
The investor was further asked to review land-use arrangements, complete quality management documentation and work with relevant electricity authorities to secure the necessary licences and agreements for commercial operation.
Hiền also called for close coordination with local authorities to maintain public security and order, address residents' concerns and implement appropriate social welfare programmes and community support activities.
