QUẢNG NGÃI – The Quảng Ngãi Provincial People’s Committee has granted an environmental permit to the Hòa Phát Dung Quất Rail and Special Steel Manufacturing Project, paving the way for the project to carry out its licensed environmental protection activities.
The permit was issued to Hòa Phát Dung Quat Rail and Special Steel Joint Stock Company, whose project is located in the eastern part of Dung Quất Industrial Park, within the Dung Quất Economic Zone in Vạn Tường Commune, Quảng Ngãi Province.
Covering a total land area of 175,811square metres, the project is designed to produce approximately 700,000 tonnes of products annually, including railway rails, section steel and special steel.
The environmental permit sets out specific requirements for wastewater treatment, air emission control, noise and vibration limits, waste management, and the prevention of and response to environmental incidents.
The company is required to complete the corresponding environmental protection facilities before conducting the activities covered by the permit.
It must also operate waste treatment systems regularly and in accordance with approved procedures, ensuring that treated waste meets applicable environmental technical standards.
The company is responsible for ensuring that pollutant emissions, noise and vibration levels comply with the permitted limits.
In the event of non-compliance, it must immediately suspend the relevant discharge or activities causing excessive noise and vibration and take corrective measures in accordance with regulations.
Any incidents at waste treatment facilities or other events posing a risk of environmental pollution must be promptly reported to the licensing authority and relevant local agencies for coordinated handling.
The environmental permit is valid for 10 years from the date of signing.
The Provincial Department of Agriculture and Environment has been assigned to coordinate with the Authority of Dung Quất Economic Zone and Quảng Ngãi Industrial Parks and Vạn Tường Commune authorities to inspect and supervise the project's compliance with the environmental protection requirements.
The move forms part of the province's efforts to strengthen environmental management while facilitating industrial development in the Dung Quất Economic Zone.
