On April 17th, Vice Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee, Trần Phước Hiền, chaired a working session with the Project Management Board 85 (under the Ministry of Construction) regarding the investment project for the construction of the Quang Ngai - Kon Tum Expressway.
The Quang Ngai - Kon Tum Expressway was approved by the Prime Minister about the adjustment to the Road Network Planning for the 2021-2030 period, with a vision towards 2050.
The total preliminary length of the expressway is approximately 136 kilometers, with 58 kilometers passing through Quang Ngai province and 78 kilometers through Kon Tum province.
The expressway will have a 4-lane configuration.
The route begins by connecting to the North-South Eastern Expressway at the Đức Phổ area (Quang Ngai province) and ends by linking to the North-South Western Expressway in Kon Tum city (Kon Tum province).
The Ministry of Construction has assigned Project Management Board 85 to prepare the pre-feasibility study report for the Quang Ngai - Kon Tum Expressway construction project.
The Project Management Board 85 plans to complete the investment policy approval process for the expressway project in 2025, followed by preparing the feasibility study report and implementing land acquisition procedures for the local authorities.
In 2026, the technical design work, contractor selection, and project construction kickoff will take place.
According to the Project Management Board 85, one of the key tasks in preparing the pre-feasibility study is determining the optimal route for the expressway, including its connection points to existing roads, the locations of service stations, and the estimated total investment.
Therefore, the Board will thoroughly review the documentation from the province, as well as relevant local planning documents, to collaborate with Quang Ngai and Kon Tum provinces to select the most optimal route proposal for submission to the authorities.
To ensure the timely completion of the preparation steps, representatives from the relevant departments, localities, and the leadership of Project Management Board 85, along with consulting units, discussed and agreed on various matters related to the project to form the foundation for future implementation steps.
In his speech at the meeting, Vice Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee Trần Phước Hiền emphasized the importance of the Quang Ngai - Kon Tum Expressway investment project.
Once completed, the project will create connections and stimulate the socio-economic development of the province following the administrative restructuring as per central government policy.
The leaders of Quang Ngai and Kon Tum provinces also discussed various aspects of the project and showed a strong political commitment to fulfilling their responsibilities in the project’s execution.
Vice Chairman Trần Phước Hiền requested Project Management Board 85 to proactively collaborate with the provincial departments to conduct thorough surveys and research to select the most optimal route, with a focus on connectivity, development potential, and maximizing the advantages of the areas the expressway passes through, especially the Măng Đen Tourism Area.
The Vice Chairman also agreed to establish a Task Force led by the Director of the Department of Construction, with members from relevant departments and localities.
This Task Force will directly work with Project Management Board 85 on the initial tasks and implementation of the project.
