Quảng Ngãi, May 14 - Vice Chairman of the Provincial People’s Committee, Trần Phước Hiền, chaired a meeting to review the progress of the National Target Program on New Rural Development (NRD) and discuss upcoming tasks.

According to the Department of Agriculture and Environment (DoAE), so far two districts—Nghĩa Hành and Tư Nghĩa—have been officially recognized as meeting NRD standards for 2016–2020.

Additionally, 98 out of 144 communes (68.05 per cent) have achieved NRD status, with 12 communes meeting advanced NRD criteria for 2021–2025.

The One Commune One Product (OCOP) program continues to be effectively implemented, with 282 certified products, including 2 potential 5-star products, 16 four-star, and 264 three-star products.

For 2025, the province has allocated VNĐ 644 billion for the NRD program; however, disbursement remains slow.

The province has submitted proposals to the Ministry of Agriculture and Environment to recognize Quảng Ngãi City and Mộ Đức District as meeting NRD standards for 2023.

With the upcoming administrative reorganization into a two-tier local government system, the planning for NRD and advanced NRD at the commune and district levels in 2025 will be adjusted accordingly.

DoAE  will coordinate with relevant communes after the restructuring plan is approved.

Concluding the meeting, Vice Chairman Hiền stressed that NRD is a key, ongoing task requiring decisive actions and the highest political commitment from all departments and localities to fulfill the 2021–2025 targets.

The province will proactively work with the Ministry of Agriculture and Environment to expedite the appraisal and approval processes for Quảng Ngãi City and Mộ Đức District.

He also urged departments and localities to accelerate project implementation and disbursement of allocated funds, while continuing to support rural road construction through the cement assistance policy.
