PPC’s chairman, Nguyen Hoang Giang, urges Ly Son district to promote sectors and fields with strengths

On March 26, Chairman of the Quang Ngai Provincial People’s Committee, Nguyen Hoang Giang, met with the leaders of Ly Son Island District to discuss local socio-economic development. He was accompanied by Vice Chairman Tran Phuoc Hien and other officials from relevant departments and agencies.

The district has achieved and exceeded most of the economic and social targets

According to the report presented by District leader at the meeting, Ly Son district has exceeded economic and social targets for 2021-2025, with a 5.4 per cent growth rate in production value and an average income of 50.8 million VND per person per year by 2025.

Tourism has been a focus, with investments in infrastructure and promotion leading to a rise in visitor numbers to 181,000 in 2024.

Social security, healthcare, and poverty reduction efforts have also been successful, with 100 per cent health insurance coverage and a decrease in the poverty rate by 1-1.5 per cent annually.

In the first quarter of 2025, economic sectors saw a 4.87 per cent increase in production value compared to last year, and state budget revenue increased by 9.28 per cent.

Particularly, there was a rise in tourism with over 24,600 visitors coming to Ly Son, an increase of 847 visitors from the previous year.

The agricultural sector in the district has shown steady growth.

Efforts have been made to combat IUU fishing, promote local OCOP products, and improve social security policies.

A program to eliminate temporary and dilapidated houses has been initiated, along with administrative reform and digital transformation.

National defense and security have been maintained, and social order and safety ensured.

The district has successfully completed the organization and personnel arrangements for administrative agencies and organizations as part of an overall plan to streamline the organizational apparatus.

At the meeting with hi-ranking leaders of provincial people’s committee, Ly Son district leaders proposed to call for strategic investors to invest in infrastructure, particularly urban development and tourism services.

They also suggested investing in underground power cables, sea dike construction, campus renovation, historical-cultural relics maintenance, and new medical equipment for the island's people.

Chairman Nguyen Hoang Giang highly appreciated Ly Son district for its achievements, and urged them to focus on promoting economic growth, implementing tasks and solutions, and meeting targets.

He emphasized the importance of following the Provincial Party Committee's conclusions, raising responsibility among officials, maintaining discipline, and avoiding obstacles.

The district should prioritize developing Ly Son into a sea-island tourism center by 2030, improve tourism products, and enhance promotion efforts.

It is also essential to adhere to urban construction plans, accelerate public investment disbursement, address compensation issues for projects, and effectively implement National Target Programs.

Additionally, the district should increase state budget revenue, develop clean agricultural products for tourism, implement the OCOP program, and prepare for natural disasters and search and rescue operations.

The Chairman requested Ly Son district to implement a sustainable development strategy for Vietnam marine economy, focusing on fisheries and aquaculture.

They also need to address cultural, social, administrative, and technological challenges, improve investment environment, and ensure security.

Regarding the district's recommendations, the chairman confirmed that they will be reviewed by relevant departments for further action soon.
