On the morning of August 18, the Party Committee, People’s Council, People’s Committee, and Vietnam Fatherland Front Committee of Quảng Ngãi province solemnly held a ceremony at the Vạn Tường Victory Museum (Vạn Tường commune) to commemorate the 60th anniversary of the Vạn Tường Victory (August 18, 1965 – August 18, 2025).

The event was attended by Senior Lieutenant General Lê Chiêm, former Member of the Party Central Committee and former Deputy Minister of National Defense; Lieutenant General Nguyễn Trung Thu, former Deputy Chief of the General Staff of the Vietnam People’s Army and Hero of the People’s Armed Forces; Major General Trần Thanh Hải, Deputy Commander of Military Region 5; Đặng Ngọc Huy, Deputy Head of the National Assembly Delegates’ Affairs Committee; together with leaders of central ministries, agencies, and military units including Division 320, Corps 3, Division 2, Division 307, and Division 315 of Military Region 5.

Delegates from Quảng Ngãi Province included Alternate Member of the Party Central Committee, Standing Deputy Secretary of the Provincial Party Committee, Head of the National Assembly Delegation, and Chairman of the Vietnam Fatherland Front Committee of the province U Huấn; Deputy Secretary of the Provincial Party Committee and Chairman of the Provincial People’s Council Nguyễn Đức Tuy; Member of the Standing Committee of the Provincial Party Committee and Standing Vice Chairwoman of the Provincial People’s Committee Y Ngọc, along with members of the Provincial Standing Committee, former provincial leaders, and representatives of departments, agencies, local authorities of Vạn Tường Commune, and veterans who took part in the historic victory.

At the ceremony, Standing Deputy Secretary of the Provincial Party Committee U Huấn recalled the glorious battle of Vạn Tường on August 18, 1965, emphasizing its historic significance as the first major defeat of the US “search and destroy” strategy in southern Việt Nam. The victory highlighted the resilience, courage, and ingenuity of Quảng Ngãi’s army and people, as well as the unique military art of Việt Nam: “using small forces to defeat larger ones.”

On behalf of the Provincial Party Committee, authorities and people of Quảng Ngãi, Standing Deputy Secretary of the Provincial Party Committee U Huấn called on the entire Party, army, and people of Quảng Ngãi to continue promoting the spirit of the Vạn Tường Victory, strengthen solidarity, actively engage in patriotic emulation, make the most of all potential and advantages, accelerate industrialization and modernization, and build a prosperous, civilized Quảng Ngãi, thereby contributing together with the whole country to the successful realization of the goal: “prosperous people, strong nation, democracy, justice, and civilization.”
Veteran Trịnh Phú Thiện, former officer of Regiment 1, shared emotional memories of the battle and urged today’s youth to take pride in their heroic homeland and continue striving for Quảng Ngãi’s development.

Representing the younger generation, Võ Thành Đạt, Vice Chairman of the Fatherland Front Committee of Vạn Tường Commune and Secretary of the Hồ Chí Minh Communist Youth Union of the commune, expressed pride in being born on heroic land. He pledged that Quảng Ngãi’s youth will uphold revolutionary traditions, pursue education, creativity, and innovation, and actively join patriotic movements, contributing to a prosperous and modern homeland.
