PM chairs emergency meeting on flood response in Central Việt Nam

On the morning of October 29, Prime Minister Phạm Minh Chính chaired an online emergency meeting with central provinces to direct response and recovery efforts after severe floods. Chairman Nguyễn Hoàng Giang and Vice Chairman Đỗ Tâm Hiển co-chaired the meeting at the Quảng Ngãi bridge point.

According to the Ministry of Agriculture and Environment, recent historic floods have inundated 32 out of 40 communes and wards, affecting over 110,000 households in Huế and Đà Nẵng. More than 21,000 residents have been evacuated from flood and landslide-risk areas.

In Quảng Ngãi, continuous heavy rain, ranging from 1,000 to 1,500 mm, has caused rising river levels, reaching alert levels 2–3. The province has evacuated 210 households (645 people) from high-risk mountainous and landslide zones to safe areas.

Preliminary reports show 15 houses damaged, 47.5 hectares of crops affected, and 11 public works, 8 bridges, and 3 schools damaged. Over 120 sites have suffered road and slope collapses.

The province has requested emergency assistance from the central government, including 5,000 tons of rice, medical supplies, and VNĐ 860 billion to restore transportation, irrigation, and public infrastructure.

Addressing the meeting, Prime Minister Phạm Minh Chính emphasized that this was an unprecedented flood event, urging authorities to prioritize human safety, promptly assess damages, and provide immediate relief to affected residents.

He called for continued evacuation of people in dangerous zones, guaranteed access to food, clean water, and medicine, and rapid post-flood recovery for schools, healthcare facilities, and local infrastructure.

The Prime Minister also directed ministries and provinces to respond swiftly to urgent local requests and report any issues beyond their authority to the Government for timely action.
