Vice Chairman Đỗ Tâm Hiển inspects landslide situation in western communes

Due to prolonged heavy rains over the past several days, many roads across Quảng Ngãi province have suffered severe landslides.

PPC’s Vice Chairman Đỗ Tâm Hiển checks the landslide situation in Xốp commune

On October 27, Vice Chairman of the Provincial People’s Committee Đỗ Tâm Hiển directly inspected the landslide situation and recovery efforts in Xốp and Đăk Pék communes.

In Xốp commune, continuous rainfall from October 25–26 caused serious landslides along several routes, especially on Provincial Road 673. Many fallen trees and soil deposits blocked traffic, while new landslides appeared along village roads in Đăk Mi, La Lua, Mô Mam, Kon Riêng, and Kon Liêm, posing potential safety risks. Several irrigation works and water channels were damaged, directly affecting local livelihoods and production.

The local Civil Defense Command promptly mobilized on-site forces to clear blocked roads and maintain 24-hour monitoring and reporting of flood developments.

Vice Chairman Đỗ Tâm Hiển commended the proactive and urgent response of local authorities and on-site forces. He requested the locality to focus on assisting affected residents, ensuring traffic safety, and protecting schools and health facilities.

He also directed a comprehensive review of high-risk landslide areas to propose appropriate solutions and prevent further loss of life and property.

Later the same day, Hiển continued his inspection in Đăk Pék commune, including the Lò Xo Pass area (on Hồ Chí Minh Road) and the Pô Kô River section running through the commune center.

Functional forces have cleared soil at landslide sites to restore traffic. However, rising water levels in the Pô Kô River continue to threaten riverbank erosion and widespread flooding in villages 14A, 14B, Đăk Rang, Đăk Ven, and Đông Thượng.

Hiển instructed Đăk Pék authorities to urgently assess and develop an overall plan to address landslides, prepare relocation plans for residents in dangerous zones, strictly control high-risk areas, and strengthen public awareness for proactive disaster prevention.

He emphasized the need for decisive measures to completely handle hazardous landslide spots.
