On October 29, Vice Chairman of the Provincial People’s Committee Đỗ Tâm Hiển chaired a meeting with relevant departments and agencies to direct urgent measures in response to heavy rains, flooding, and landslides across the province.
Reportedly, from October 25 to 29, prolonged heavy rains have caused water levels in major rivers such as the Trà Khúc and Trà Bồng to rise to near or above Alert Level 3. Several areas have been flooded, with 210 households (645 people) evacuated from high-risk zones. Over 210 reservoirs are currently operating at 79–87 per cent capacity, while Đăkđrinh Hydropower Reservoir has reached nearly 90 per cent of its designed volume.
Heavy rains have triggered over 120 landslides, blocking sections of national and provincial roads. Particularly, landslides at Km 1407 and Km 1408+200 on the Hồ Chí Minh route through Đăk Plô Commune have made traffic impassable.
Vice Chairman Đỗ Tâm Hiển stressed that with ongoing heavy rainfall and high risk of flash floods and landslides, all localities and sectors must maintain the highest level of alert and avoid complacency in any circumstances.
He requested the Provincial Civil Defense Command to strengthen disaster forecasting, ensure rapid reporting, and deploy working teams to flood-prone areas for timely response.
The Department of Agriculture and Environment and the Department of Industry and Trade were assigned to inspect reservoir operations and ensure dam safety, while the Department of Construction must promptly address landslide disruptions to restore traffic for emergency and rescue operations.
All forces in the province were instructed to remain on high alert and fully prepare with manpower and equipment for emergency response and rescue operations. Public communication must be intensified to keep residents informed and proactive in flood prevention. Essential supplies and post-flood disease prevention measures must also be ensured to protect local livelihoods.
The Quảng Ngãi Hydro-meteorological Station was directed to increase monitoring and issue timely forecasts and warnings to support provincial authorities in proactive flood and landslide response. Localities must strictly follow the “four on-the-spot” principle and evacuate residents from high-risk areas to ensure absolute safety.
