QUẢNG NGÃI — Chairman of the Quảng Ngãi Provincial People’s Committee Nguyễn Hoàng Giang on October 28 inspected several areas affected by landslides along National Highway 24C in Thanh Bồng Commune, following days of heavy rain that triggered widespread erosion in mountainous parts of the province.

Accompanying him were leaders of relevant departments, agencies, and local authorities.

According to Hồ Thị Vân, Secretary of Thanh Bồng Commune, the area has experienced prolonged and intense rainfall, especially from the night of October 26 to October 27, causing nearly 20 landslide points across the commune. Five major landslides were reported along National Highway 24C.

To promptly address the situation, local authorities have mobilised on-site forces and local residents to clear debris and restore traffic on inter-village and inter-commune routes.

For the national highway, the commune has maintained close coordination with the Department of Construction and other relevant agencies to ensure quick response whenever new incidents occur.

After the inspection, Chairman Giang instructed the Department of Construction, the Provincial Transport Construction Investment Project Management Board, and other agencies to urgently implement remedial measures to ensure the safety of residents and traffic.

He also requested the installation of warning signs at landslide-prone areas and reinforced coordination in line with the “four-on-the-spot” approach: on-site command, on-site manpower, on-site materials, and on-site logistics.

Giang asked local authorities to closely monitor high-risk areas, provide timely weather and landslide warnings to residents, and prepare evacuation plans for those living in dangerous zones to ensure their safety and stable accommodation during the rainy season.

All departments and localities were ordered to maintain round-the-clock readiness and respond swiftly to any incidents to protect both people and construction workers operating in affected areas.

Expressing sympathy for the difficulties faced by local residents and authorities, Giang called on all sectors and forces to uphold the highest sense of responsibility in disaster prevention and control to safeguard lives and property while contributing to stabilising livelihoods and promoting socio-economic development in the province.
