HÀ NỘI — Prime Minister Phạm Minh Chính on January 6 chaired the 5ᵗʰ meeting of the Steering Committee for key national projects and important railway works.

Chairman of the Provincial People’s Committee Nguyễn Hoàng Giang and Vice Chairman Nguyễn Công Hoàng attended the meeting via a video link from Quảng Ngãi Province.

Việt Nam is currently implementing several major and nationally important railway projects, including the Lào Cai–Hà Nội–Hải Phòng railway; the Hà Nội–Lạng Sơn and Hải Phòng–Móng Cái rail lines; the North–South high-speed railway; and urban railway projects in Hà Nội and Hồ Chí Minh City.

Following the National Assembly’s approval of investment policies, the Government and the Prime Minister have directed the Ministry of Construction, together with relevant ministries and agencies, to develop implementation plans and assign specific tasks.

The Steering Committee for key national railway projects was established on March 15, 2025.

To date, the committee has held four regular meetings and several ad hoc sessions, assigning a total of 75 tasks to ministries, sectors and localities to address bottlenecks and accelerate project preparation. After the 4ᵗʰ meeting on October 23, 2025, a further 47 tasks were assigned. Of these, 38 have been basically completed, five are being actively implemented as part of routine management, while four remain behind schedule due to foreign partner involvement or the need for additional time.

Concluding the meeting, Prime Minister Phạm Minh Chính, head of the Steering Committee, noted that ministries, sectors and localities had shown strong initiative and achieved important results, particularly in improving institutional frameworks and policies, issuing key legal documents, and strengthening coordination.

He commended localities for their efforts in site clearance for Component Project 1 and in implementing station-related works.

The Prime Minister called for continued high determination, clear task assignment, defined timelines and responsibilities, and regular monitoring linked to performance indicators.

He stressed that project implementation must be effective and prevent waste or losses of public assets, resources and time.
