QUẢNG NGÃI — Provincial Party Secretary Hồ Văn Niên, member of the Party Central Committee, led a delegation on December 5ᵗʰ to inspect several landslide-prone areas in Tây Trà and Tây Trà Bồng communes.
Accompanying him were members of the Provincial Party Committee’s Standing Board, Vice Chairman of the Provincial People’s Committee Nguyễn Công Hoàng, Standing Vice Chairwoman of the provincial Việt Nam Fatherland Front Committee Y Thị Bích Thọ, and leaders of relevant provincial departments and agencies.
The delegation examined landslide sites in residential clusters 1 and 2 of Tây Village, Tây Trà Bồng Commune, where ongoing slope failures pose risks to 51 households with nearly 200 residents. Prolonged heavy rains in November 2025 caused two houses to collapse completely.
Secretary Niên instructed local authorities to prepare evacuation plans to ensure residents’ safety in the event of further heavy rainfall.
For a long-term solution, he asked the commune to work with specialised agencies to survey available land and propose funding for a resettlement area, aiming to relocate all 51 households to a safer location.
According to the Department of Agriculture and Environment, construction of the new resettlement area is estimated to cost VNĐ22 billion.
During an inspection of landslides at Suối Dinh Bridge on the Bắc Dương–Tre Village route in Tây Trà Bồng Commune, Niên directed the Department of Construction—together with local authorities and related agencies—to design and build a new bridge in a safer location to prevent further erosion and ensure the safety of residents and vehicles.
The delegation also reviewed the landslide damage at Trà Xinh Medical Station in Tây Trà Commune, where the rains in November caused soil and rocks from a nearby hill to slide down, burying the station’s parking area, damaging the roofed entrance and collapsing walls on the ground floor. The estimated loss is about VNĐ2.5 billion.
Secretary Niên requested local authorities to arrange a temporary working facility for medical staff while repairs are underway, ensuring that primary healthcare services for local residents remain uninterrupted.
