Standing Vice Chairman of the Quảng Ngãi Provincial People’s Committee, Trần Hoàng Tuấn, has signed an urgent directive (No. 2549/UBND-KGVX) to strengthen drowning prevention for children and students.
This follows two drowning incidents on May 1 in Mộ Đức District, where four students went missing.
To prevent similar tragedies, especially during holidays and the upcoming summer break, the province has ordered relevant departments and localities to implement comprehensive measures.
Key actions include: to intensify patrols and rescue efforts by police, provide medical support and training from the health sector, increase water safety education in schools, conduct public awareness campaigns led by the culture and tourism sector, strengthen inspections of water-related tourist sites, and improve safety at reservoirs and former mining sites.
Local governments are tasked with reviewing high-risk drowning areas, enhancing safety measures, and coordinating emergency response and support for affected families.
