Vice Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee Đỗ Tâm Hiển inspects the safety of Núi Ngang and Liệt Sơn reservoirs
QUẢNG NGÃI — Vice Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee Đỗ Tâm Hiển on August 6 inspected the safety of Núi Ngang and Liệt Sơn reservoirs and urged local authorities and relevant agencies to strengthen preparedness measures ahead of the 2026 rainy and storm season.
The inspection covered Núi Ngang Reservoir in Ba Động Commune and Liệt Sơn Reservoir in Đức Phổ Ward, with representatives from provincial departments, sectors and local authorities joining the field visit.
According to Quảng Ngãi Irrigation Works Exploitation One-Member Co., Ltd., the company has completed pre-flood inspections of all 24 reservoirs and irrigation facilities under its management and submitted the inspection results to the provincial Department of Agriculture and Environment in accordance with regulations.
The company has also conducted trial operations of flood spillway gates at Núi Ngang, Liệt Sơn and Diên Trường reservoirs.
All gates are currently closed and will be secured in line with the approved operating procedures.
At the time of the inspection, Núi Ngang Reservoir had a water level of 51.03 metres, with approximately 3.98 million cubic metres of storage remaining, equivalent to about 19 per cent of its designed capacity.
Liệt Sơn Reservoir recorded a water level of 24.5 metres, with about 2.44 million cubic metres of storage, or roughly 10 per cent of its designed capacity.
With current weather conditions and expected rainfall, both reservoirs are expected to provide sufficient irrigation water for the 2026 Summer–Autumn crop.
Water storage for the 2027 production season is scheduled to begin on November 25, 2026.
The company reported that all reservoir facilities are operating safely and smoothly.
Disaster response plans for the 2026 rainy and storm season have been approved, while personnel, equipment and emergency supplies have been prepared in coordination with local authorities to respond promptly to potential natural disasters.

During the inspection, Hiển commended the irrigation company and local authorities for their proactive efforts in inspecting infrastructure and preparing emergency response plans before the onset of the rainy season.
He instructed reservoir management units to closely monitor weather developments, strictly implement approved reservoir operation procedures, and ensure both structural safety and reliable water supply for agricultural production and daily use.
He also called for regular inspections of key infrastructure to promptly detect and address any defects or report potential risks to competent authorities.
The Vice Chairman further urged agencies and localities to strengthen water regulation during the rainy season, coordinate with downstream localities in developing disaster response scenarios, identify flood- and landslide-prone locations, and ensure that adequate manpower, equipment and emergency supplies are ready for evacuation when necessary to safeguard lives and property.
