According to the draft plan on reorganizing grassroots-level administrative units in Quang Ngai Province for public consultation, the province will be streamlined to 56 commune-level administrative units, including 49 communes, 6 wards, and 1 special administrative unit—Ly Son Special Zone.
This accounts for 32.35 per cent of the original total, marking a reduction of 115 units from the current 170 units (a 67.65 per cent decrease).
The plan includes the restructuring of Ly Son District into a single commune-level unit known as the Ly Son Special Zone.
Meanwhile, 169 out of 170 current commune-level units in 12 districts, towns, and cities will be merged into 54 newly formed communes and wards.
The only exception is Ba Xa Commune in Ba To District, which meets the required standards for natural area and population size and therefore remains unchanged.
Specific restructuring details include:
Quang Ngai City: 3 wards (Cam Thanh, Nghia Lo, Truong Quang Trong) and 2 communes (Tinh Khe, An Phu).
Duc Pho Town: 3 wards (Tra Cau, Duc Pho, Sa Huynh) and 2 communes (Nguyen Nghiem, Khanh Cuong).
