Quảng Ngãi plans to develop fruit-growing areas

On May 13, Vice Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee, Trần Phước Hiền, chaired a meeting with departments, sectors, and localities to discuss the implementation of the model of applying scientific and technical advances in the development of fruit-growing areas in the province.

Quảng Ngãi currently has about 4,000 hectares of fruit trees. Among districts in Quảng Ngãi,Nghĩa Hành is the locality with the largest area with the brand " Nghĩa Hành fruits", meeting VietGAP standards and recognized as OCOP products,. These products include green-skinned grapefruit, rambutan, durian, and Hành Tín Đông banana.

In recent years, the province has invested in programs and projects to develop agriculture and rural areas, focusing on fruit tree development. However, due to many reasons, fruit tree development has faced many difficulties.

Recently, a delegation from Quang Ngai province visited and learned experiences on models of crop conversion, and the application of scientific and technical advances in developing fruit tree areas in Sơn La province and other localities and cities.

At the meeting, the Department of Agriculture and Environment and localities discussed and proposed contents that Quảng Ngãi province could apply from the models of Sơn La province for localities with favorable conditions, such as Nghĩa Hành, Sơn Hà, Sơn Tây, Ba Tơ, Trà Bồng, and Minh Long.

Concluding the meeting, Vice Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee, Trần Phước Hiền, acknowledged sectors and localities for their successful application of the learned experiences from many provinces and cities in the fields of digital transformation, land management, and mineral resources.

For the models of Sơn La province, Hiền urged the agricultural sector to review the application results, ensuring effectiveness in promoting the potential and advantages of each region and locality.

He also asked the Department of Agriculture and Environment to change its mindset in the management and development of the agricultural economy, promoting the application of scientific and technological advances following Resolution No. 57-NQ/TW of the Politburo on breakthroughs in science and technology development, innovation, and national digital transformation.

The PPC’s Vice Chairman assigned the Department of Agriculture and Environment to preside over and develop the fruit trees area in some localities with specific products.

These models must be implemented in localities with existing cooperatives and cooperative groups in order to attract the participation of farmers in the production and consumption value chain, Hiền added.
