On September 8, Deputy Minister of Agriculture and Environment Phùng Đức Tiến led a working mission to Quảng Ngãi, meeting with the Provincial People’s Committee on three key issues: combating illegal, unreported, and unregulated (IUU) fishing; controlling African swine fever (ASF); and upgrading the Tịnh Hòa storm shelter and fishing port.
Vice Chairman Trần Phước Hiền and leaders of relevant departments and localities attended the meeting.
Quảng Ngãi reported significant progress in IUU prevention, with over 97 per cent of fishing vessels over 15m equipped with vessel monitoring systems (VMS), and 100 per cent of vessels registered in the national fisheries database.
The province also applies electronic catch documentation (eCDT) for all vessels entering and leaving ports to ensure traceability.
On ASF, outbreaks since July have been largely contained through coordinated prevention measures, with localities now focusing on safe restocking and mandatory vaccination.
Regarding the Tịnh Hòa storm shelter and fishing port project, with a total investment of VNĐ 460 billion, disbursement of provincial funds has reached almost 100 per cent, while central budget disbursement is at nearly 30 per cent.
Deputy Minister Tiến praised Quảng Ngãi’s proactive efforts against IUU fishing and urged the province to sustain strict monitoring and enforcement in line with the Prime Minister’s Directive No. 122/CĐ-TTg.
He also emphasized drastic measures for animal disease control and timely, full disbursement of central funds for the Tịnh Hòa project.
