Quảng Ngãi - Vice Chairman of the Quảng Ngãi Provincial People's Committee, Võ Phiên, on June 23 chaired a conference to review the National Target Program on socio-economic development in ethnic minority and mountainous areas for the 2021–2025 period.

Attendees included provincial leaders, representatives from departments, and mountainous district authorities.

The province currently has 61 ethnic and mountainous communes, with over VNĐ 2,300 billion mobilized for the program.

Of this, over VNĐ 2,080 billion came from the central government budget. The remaining funds were sourced from local budgets, loans, and community contributions.

The program has helped reduce poverty, improve infrastructure, expand access to basic services, and raise living standards in remote areas.

100 per cent of ethnic communes have paved roads to their centers.

99 per cent of households use electricity and have access to television and radio.

98.5per cent  of ethnic minorities are covered by health insurance.

Child malnutrition and maternal healthcare indicators have improved significantly.

The poverty rate among ethnic minority households decreased by 7.54 per cent per year.

Additionally, 291 community projects and 11 value chain production projects were implemented.

Infrastructure investment and the preservation of traditional culture tied to tourism also saw positive results.

However, challenges remain, including slow fund disbursement for higher education, vocational training, and language programs.

Two key targets have not yet been met: reducing underweight children under five and maintaining active village cultural teams.

In his remarks, Vice Chairman Võ Phiên praised the efforts of all departments and localities.

He emphasized the program’s visible results: better infrastructure, improved incomes, reduced poverty, and stronger rural development.

He called on stakeholders to continue addressing difficulties, improve resource coordination, strengthen staff capacity, and enhance production linkages to ensure greater effectiveness in the next phase (2026–2030).
