QUẢNG NGÃI — On October 22, Vice Chairman of the Provincial People’s Committee Trần Phước Hiền chaired a working session with local authorities and investors to accelerate the implementation of ongoing hydropower projects in the eastern region of the province.
According to the provincial Department of Industry and Trade, there are currently 11 hydropower projects under construction or in the investment preparation stage in the area, with a total designed capacity of 208.8 MW.
These include Sông Liên 1 (15 MW), Trà Phong 1A and 1B (30 MW), Sông Liên 2 (12 MW), Ba Vì (9 MW), Trà Khúc 1 (30 MW), Trà Khúc 2 (30 MW), Long Sơn (18 MW), Sơn Nham (6.8 MW), Sơn Linh (7 MW), Đăkđrinh 2 (21 MW) and Tây Trà 1, 1.1, 3 (30 MW).
While several projects are on schedule, many others have fallen behind due to various obstacles, the department reported.
At the meeting, investors presented updates on project implementation, reported difficulties and proposed recommendations for the provincial authorities to help resolve bottlenecks and speed up progress.
Vice Chairman Hiền emphasized that, in line with directions from the Prime Minister and the Ministry of Industry and Trade, accelerating the implementation of power generation and grid projects included in approved plans is a key solution to ensuring national energy security and sufficient electricity supply for economic development and daily life.
Provinces are required to expedite progress and put new power plants into operation three to six months ahead of schedule while ensuring quality and compliance.
He reaffirmed that Quảng Ngãi authorities are committed to accompanying businesses and addressing obstacles in all sectors, including hydropower—particularly as many of these projects are located in socio-economically disadvantaged communes.
The Vice Chairman requested relevant departments and localities to provide timely support and guidance for investors in completing legal procedures, and to promptly resolve issues related to compensation and site clearance.
He also urged stronger communication to help local residents understand the benefits of energy projects, gain their support, and facilitate smooth construction, enabling projects to be completed and put into commercial operation soon, thus contributing stable revenues to the local budget.
Hiền called on investors to actively coordinate with authorities, strengthen project management capacity, develop detailed construction schedules, and mobilize sufficient resources to ensure progress.
In response to the impacts of Storm No. 12, he also instructed all ongoing hydropower projects to urgently implement safety measures to protect workers, equipment, and construction works from possible floods and heavy rains.
