QUẢNG NGÃI — Deputy Secretary of the Provincial Party Committee and Chairman of the Quảng Ngãi Provincial People’s Committee, Nguyễn Hoàng Giang, inspected storm and flood prevention work at the An Phú coastal erosion control project on Tuesday morning (October 22).
He was accompanied by Ngô Văn Trọng, member of the Provincial Party Standing Committee and Head of the Commission for Information, Education and Mass Mobilization, along with leaders from the Provincial Police Department, Military Command, and several departments including Agriculture and Environment, Construction, Finance, and the Provincial Transport Works Construction Investment Project Management Board.
The An Phú Coastal Erosion Control Project in the former Quảng Ngãi City area is classified as an emergency project, invested by the Provincial Transport Works Construction Investment Project Management Board.
The project aims to prevent coastal erosion in An Phú Commune, ensuring the safety of residents living along the coast and protecting the sea embankment and concrete road running through the area.
The project includes a 250-metre-long embankment, one stairway, and one drainage culvert leading from the residential area to the sea.
The total investment capital is VNĐ 30 billion, sourced from the provincial budget. Construction began on July 8, 2025, and is scheduled for completion by November 30, 2025.
Since ground breaking, the contractor has increased work shifts to accelerate progress. As of now, 92 per cent of the contract value has been completed.
The Tetrapod concrete blocks along the 250-metre embankment have been installed, helping to block sea waves and ensure safety during construction.
The embankment has been built to an elevation of +3.0 metres, ensuring structural safety during the stormy season.
Installation of H-shaped components is expected to be completed by October 25, 2025, and the entire project is on track to finish by November 30, 2025.
After the inspection, Chairman Nguyễn Hoàng Giang praised the project management board and contractors for their dedication and efficient progress in a short period.
He emphasized that, according to weather forecasts, Tropical Storm No. 12 is expected to affect the central region, with heavy rains likely in Quảng Ngãi due to post-storm circulation.
He urged contractors to mobilize more manpower and equipment, and to speed up construction to ensure the embankment meets safety standards against high tides and strong waves.
Project management units were instructed to remind contractors to secure materials and machinery as the storm approaches.
Contractors must also prepare comprehensive storm and flood prevention plans to minimize property damage and, above all, ensure no loss of life, in accordance with provincial directives.
