On the afternoon of October 29, Vice Chairman of the Quảng Ngãi Provincial People’s Committee Nguyễn Ngọc Sâm inspected flooding and local response efforts in Thọ Phong Commune and Trương Quang Trọng Ward.
These are two areas severely affected by annual flooding as water from the upper Trà Khúc River flows downstream.
According to local authorities, river levels have exceeded alert level 3, many roads are deeply flooded, and several low-lying residential areas remain isolated. Local forces have been mobilized to monitor, protect, and assist residents in high-risk zones.
Vice Chairman Nguyễn Ngọc Sâm urged local authorities to maximize on-site forces, work closely with provincial agencies to relocate residents from areas prone to deep flooding or landslides, and ensure no loss of life. Police, military, and militia units must maintain 24/7 readiness and be well equipped with necessary means and materials for emergency response.
He also emphasized the need to strengthen communication, advising residents to avoid rivers, streams, and flooded areas, while moving valuables and livestock to higher ground to minimize damage.
Functional agencies were assigned to quickly install warning signs, restrict movement across unsafe roads, bridges, and spillways, and ensure timely supply of food, water, and essential goods for isolated households.
Vice Chairman Nguyễn Ngọc Sâm stressed that with unpredictable weather ahead, local authorities must remain highly vigilant, update information promptly, and strictly implement provincial directives on disaster response. After floodwaters recede, localities should urgently assess damages, assist affected residents in restoring livelihoods, and ensure social stability and safety.
