Vice Chairman of the Provincial People’s Committee Trần Phước Hiền has recently met with residents of Lệ Thủy village, Bình Trị commune, Bình Sơn district about the VNT19 Pulp and Paper Mill Project.
Representatives from the Ministry of Agriculture and Environment, Ministry of Science and Technology, and relevant provincial departments and local authorities also attended the meeting.
During the meeting, officials provided information on the project's implementation, legal procedures regarding environmental impact assessment, and the system for monitoring wastewater treatment and discharge at the plant.
The VNT19 Pulp and Paper Mill, invested by VNT19 Joint Stock Company, is being built in Bình phước commune on a 117-hectare site, with a designed capacity of 350,000 tons of bleached pulp annually and a total investment of nearly VND 10 trillion.
As one of three facilities under special environmental supervision in Quảng Ngãi, the plant is required to maintain 24/7 automated monitoring.
All data is transmitted to central and local agencies and the Bình Trị Commune People’s Committee for public oversight.
The company has partnered with Finnish contractor Aquaflow for the wastewater treatment system.
They ensured that discharged water will meet or exceed national environmental standards (QCVN 12-MT:2015/BTNMT).
VNT19 JSC committed to full compliance with environmental laws, halting discharge immediately in case of incidents, and providing fair compensation if needed.
The company also pledged to support local livelihoods and social welfare.
Local residents raised concerns about the wastewater discharge pipeline into Việt Thanh Bay.
Vice Chairman Trần Phước Hiền addressed these concerns openly, emphasizing transparency and trust.
He affirmed that modern technology can fully address environmental issues and that the project will remain under strict supervision by central and local authorities.
He urged the company to accelerate the adoption of water reuse technology and ensure clear communication with local communities.
He also stressed the importance of fulfilling commitments to job creation and social responsibility to foster public support and facilitate the project’s progress.
