On August 6, 2025, Prime Minister Phạm Minh Chính signed Decision No. 1673/QĐ-TTg to update the list of projects and restructure the State Steering Committee for nationally significant and key transport projects.
Among them is the 144-km-Quảng Ngãi – Kon Tum Expressway, now designated as a national priority in the transport sector,
According to the Ministry of Construction, the project is essential for creating the fastest and most efficient high-speed road.
It will also connect Lao and Cambodian border gates in the Central Highlands to Vietnam’s North–South transport corridors and coastal economic zones.
The expressway will serve as a critical transport artery linking the Central Coast with the Central Highlands.
This will facilitate trade, goods transport, and economic cooperation across regions.
Once completed, the project is expected to maximize the geographical and natural advantages in the regions.
The expressway will reduce transportation costs and travel time, providing strong impetus for industrial, agricultural, and service sector growth in both provinces.
