The 33rd Diplomatic Conference, themed "Promoting the pioneering role and fulfilling the crucial and regular task of Việt Nam's external affairsin the new era", officially opened in Hà Nội on August 1. General Secretary and State President Tô Lâm attended and delivered an address.

At the Quảng Ngãi venue, the conference was chaired by Deputy Secretary of the Provincial Party Committee and Head of the NA Deputies' Delegation Đinh Thị Hồng Minh. Attendees also included Deputy Secretary of the Provincial Party Committee and Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee Nguyễn Đức Tâm, members of the Provincial Party Standing Committee, and leaders of provincial departments and agencies.
Held from August 1–7, 2026, the conference marks the first diplomatic conference in Việt Nam's new era of national development and prosperity. It takes place during the first year of implementing the Resolution of the 14th National Party Congress, with the aim of aligning the diplomatic sector on the Party's foreign policy orientations and priorities.
In his opening remarks, Politburo member and Minister of Foreign Affairs Lê Hoài Trung stressed that the conference would focus on effectively implementing the Party's foreign policy while renewing thinking and methods to meet the country's development requirements in the new era.

The conference features 18 sessions covering the global and regional outlook, relations with major powers and neighboring countries, border affairs, comprehensive foreign policy strategy, diplomacy for development, science and technology, innovation, support for businesses, and Party building within the diplomatic sector.
Addressing the conference, General Secretary and State President Tô Lâm emphasized that, for the first time, the 14th National Party Congress identifies foreign affairs as a key and regular task, making it an integral component of the nation's overall strength and a shared responsibility of the entire political system.
He called on the diplomatic sector to strengthen its pioneering role by improving strategic forecasting, providing timely policy advice, safeguarding national interests from an early stage, and mobilizing external resources to support national development.

He also outlined six key priorities for the diplomatic sector, including enhancing strategic research and policy advice, deepening external relations, advancing diplomacy for development, elevating multilateral diplomacy, strengthening inter-agency coordination, and building a professional, capable and highly credible diplomatic workforce.
