QUẢNG NGÃI — Quảng Ngãi Province will develop a long-term strategy to enhance the capacity of its Science and Technology Application Centre, aiming to improve research, technology transfer and innovation in support of socio-economic development.
The direction was given by Vice Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee Trần Phước Hiền during a working session with the centre on Wednesday to review its operations and discuss future development plans.
Established under a provincial decision issued on July 1, 2025, the Science and Technology Application Centre is a public non-business unit under the Department of Science and Technology.
It is responsible for conducting research, applying and transferring technologies, and providing science and technology services to support state management and meet the needs of organisations and individuals.
The centre currently employs 34 staff members and manages five research and operational facilities covering approximately 21 hectares, including its headquarters, experimental research sites and two science and technology product exhibition centres located in the eastern and western parts of the province.
Since the beginning of 2026, the centre has expanded its research and production activities, supplying more than 500,000 seedlings, 4,330 breeding eggs, 130 kilograms of breeding chickens, 140 breeding pigs, nearly 1.9 tonnes of commercial pork, and over 55,600 oyster mushroom growing bags.
It has also conducted 830 DNA tests and analysed 30 saponin samples.
The centre has mastered several advanced technologies, including plant tissue culture, multifunctional microbial production, edible and medicinal mushroom cultivation, herbal extraction, DNA testing and saponin analysis for Ngọc Linh ginseng.
It has also strengthened cooperation with research institutes, universities and businesses, while providing technical training and technology transfer programmes for mountainous localities.
During the meeting, representatives from provincial departments discussed measures to address challenges related to human resources, infrastructure, laboratory equipment, public assets and financial mechanisms, while proposing solutions to improve research efficiency and technology transfer.

Concluding the meeting, Vice Chairman Trần Phước Hiền acknowledged the centre's achievements and urged it to identify priority tasks that maximise the use of existing public assets and resources.
He stressed that future activities should be driven by practical demand, align with the centre's assigned functions and ensure the efficient use of public resources.
He assigned the Department of Science and Technology to work with the centre in preparing an organisational and development plan, including proposals for the effective management of its facilities and resources.
The plan will be submitted to the Provincial People's Committee as the basis for future investment and development policies aimed at strengthening scientific research, innovation and technology transfer across the province.
