At the working session, Chairman of the Provincial People’s Committee Nguyễn Hoàng Giang reported that Quảng Ngãi had experienced torrential rains over the past several days. River water levels were receding slowly.

From October 27 to 29, local authorities evacuated more than 970 households with over 3,660 residents from areas at high risk of landslides and flash floods to safer places.

Heavy rains caused severe damage to transportation infrastructure, agricultural production, and daily life.

The province recorded over 200 landslide points, while many national, provincial and rural roads were blocked or damaged by soil and rocks.

Several bridges, public facilities, and essential infrastructure were also affected. The total estimated damage amounts to about VNĐ 314 billion (approximately US$12.5 million).

Provincial leaders have directly inspected flooded and landslide-hit areas and issued numerous directives to ensure traffic safety and provide timely assistance to affected residents.

The province has implemented disaster response and recovery measures with a proactive approach, prioritizing safety and livelihood stability.

Localities have developed detailed plans for each residential cluster, including relocation, temporary shelters, food and water supply, and post-disaster recovery.

Chairman Giang proposed that the Government provide equipment and vehicles for disaster prevention and rescue operations — such as boats and life-saving tools — as well as essential goods including rice, instant noodles, dried food, and medicines to support affected people.

He also requested financial assistance to help the province restore infrastructure and production and stabilize people’s lives.

Party Secretary Hồ Văn Niên reported on the current damage and said the province would continue close monitoring of weather developments, promptly repair damaged roads, and ensure food, water, and medical supplies for residents.

He affirmed that Quảng Ngãi would seriously follow the Government’s guidance and carry out comprehensive and effective recovery measures.

Deputy Prime Minister Trần Hồng Hà praised the province for its proactive and coordinated response

Deputy Prime Minister Trần Hồng Hà expressed his sympathy for the severe losses caused by the floods and praised the province for its proactive and coordinated response, which helped ensure safety and support affected communities.

He urged Quảng Ngãi to further strengthen its disaster preparedness and recovery plans, clearly define responsibilities at all administrative levels, and implement the “four-on-the-spot” principle.

He also highlighted the importance of updating flood and landslide risk maps to enhance early response and minimize risks.

The Deputy Prime Minister agreed with the province’s proposals and confirmed that the central Government would promptly provide necessary support to help Quảng Ngãi overcome the consequences of the disaster.

He also asked the province to review and assess drainage, energy, telecommunications, transport, and irrigation systems, as well as critical coastal dikes, and prioritize the repair of schools, healthcare facilities, and other essential infrastructure.

On this occasion, Deputy Prime Minister Trần Hồng Hà, on behalf of the Việt Nam Fatherland Front Central Committee, presented VNĐ 5 billion (US$200,000) to Quảng Ngãi Province to support post-disaster recovery efforts.
