QUẢNG NGÃI — A Central Governent working delegation led by Nguyễn Xuân Sang, Deputy Minister of Construction, and Senior Lieutenant General Phạm Trường Sơn, Deputy Chief of the General Staff of the Việt Nam People’s Army, on Thursday met with the Quảng Ngãi Provincial People’s Committee leaders to review Storm No.13 (Kalmaegi) preparedness and discuss solutions for the stranded Star Bueno vessel in Dung Quất waters.
PPC’s Vice Chairman Đỗ Tâm Hiển said the province had banned vessels from going to sea, ensured safe anchorage for over 6,000 fishing boats, and prepared to evacuate nearly 90,000 residents from high-risk areas before the storm’s landfall.
Forces have been mobilised to assist evacuation and secure homes.
The Liberian-flagged Star Bueno (179,000 DWT, carrying 174,790 tonnes of iron ore) ran aground on October 26 due to bad weather but later refloated and is now safely anchored.
All 22 crew members have been brought ashore, and anti-spill measures are in place.
Deputy Minister Nguyễn Xuân Sang urged close coordination between central and local agencies, readiness of equipment and manpower, and proactive plans to prevent and respond to possible oil spills or other environmental incidents.
