QUẢNG NGÃI — Vice Chairman of the Quảng Ngãi Provincial People’s Committee, Nguyễn Công Hoàng, on Wednesday afternoon (November 5) led a working delegation to inspect preparations for Typhoon Kalmaegi (Storm No.13) in Trà Câu Ward.
According to the Trà Câu Ward authorities, local forces have urgently implemented preventive measures in response to the approaching storm.
Fishing vessels, fishermen and aquaculture households have been instructed to move to safe shelters, while the anchoring and mooring of boats at Mỹ Á Port have been carefully inspected and guided.
The ward has also checked coastal areas at risk of landslides and sea waves.
As of November 5, the ward had 659 fishing vessels with 3,648 crew members. Among them, 645 vessels with 3,504 workers had safely anchored at Mỹ Á Port.
The remaining 14 vessels with 144 workers were reported to be sheltering near Trường Sa (Spratly Islands), Hoàng Sa (Paracel Islands), and Đà Nẵng.
Local authorities have also proactively disseminated storm warnings and safety instructions through community media channels, urged residents to reinforce houses, and relocated aquaculture cages to safe areas.
All coastal and low-lying households have been reviewed for potential evacuation if necessary.
During the inspection, Vice Chairman Hoàng highly appreciated the ward’s proactive and serious implementation of the province’s directives under Official Telegram No.07, as well as the readiness of local authorities, forces, and residents in preparing for the storm.
He emphasized that Kalmaegi is forecast to be a strong and fast-moving typhoon, urging all parties to remain vigilant despite thorough preparations.
Hoàng commended local fishermen for promptly bringing their boats to safe anchorage at Mỹ Á Port, and praised the ward’s close coordination to ensure the safety of both people and property.
He requested Trà Câu Ward to continue public communication, closely monitor the remaining vessels still operating at sea—especially around the Trường Sa and Hoàng Sa areas—and provide timely guidance in line with provincial instructions.
For aquaculture areas, the Vice Chairman stressed that no residents should stay on floating cages when the storm makes landfall, and that authorities should assist with harvesting and securing assets to minimize losses.
He also directed the ward to strengthen inspections of flood-prone areas, especially along rivers, coastal roads, and low-lying residential zones; maintain 24/7 standby teams for emergency evacuation; and reinforce schools, offices, and public facilities.
Sufficient supplies, equipment, and rescue materials must be prepared to promptly respond to any emergency situations.
