Immediately after the 25th meeting of the National Steering Committee on IUU Fishing Prevention on the evening of December 9, Vice Chairman of the Provincial People’s Committee Đỗ Tâm Hiển chaired a meeting with relevant departments and coastal localities to implement the Prime Minister’s directives.
According to the Department of Agriculture and Environment, Quảng Ngãi currently has 4,852 fishing vessels, all registered and updated on VNFishbase, with 100 per cent eligible vessels granted fishing licenses. Vessels that do not meet licensing conditions are strictly controlled at their anchorage locations, and local authorities must be responsible for monitoring and preventing them from operating at sea.
Traceability of caught seafood is fully implemented via the eCDT system, ensuring 100 per cent of vessels entering and leaving ports are monitored.
Certification and verification of seafood origin comply with regulations, with no export dossiers requiring clarification.
Law enforcement efforts have been strengthened, completing sanctions for violations related to VMS and strictly handling newly arising cases.
Vice Chairman Đỗ Tâm Hiển affirmed that Quảng Ngãi has mobilized maximum resources and implemented strong, coordinated measures against IUU fishing, achieving positive results. Over the past week, the province completed 19 out of 19 tasks assigned by the central government.

He requested leaders of relevant agencies, coastal communes, wards, and Lý Sơn Special Zone to thoroughly follow central and provincial directives on IUU prevention and take full responsibility for assigned tasks.
The Provincial Inspectorate will lead the establishment of inter-sectoral inspection teams to check the implementation of IUU prevention measures, including inspection of non-eligible vessels, port entry and exit management, traceability records, and administrative sanctions.
Coastal localities and Lý Sơn are required to establish inspection teams and report results to the Provincial People’s Committee before December 13, 2025.
Alongside communication efforts, the province emphasized the need to strictly and publicly sanction IUU violations, especially cases related to illegal fishing in foreign waters or intentional disconnection of VMS devices.
