Quảng Ngãi and Ratanakiri strengthen cooperation in the search and repatriation of Martyrs’ remains

On August 21, in Ban Lung City, Ratanakiri province, Cambodia, Standing Vice Chairwoman of the Quảng Ngãi Provincial People’s Committee and Head of the Provincial Special Task Committee Y Ngọc held talks with the Ratanakiri Provincial Special Task Committee on the continued search, recovery and repatriation of the remains of Vietnamese volunteer soldiers and experts who died in Cambodia during wartime, for the 2026-2027 dry season.

The delegation was received by Ratanakiri Vice Governor and Head of the Provincial Special Task Committee Ma Vi Chet.

At the talks, both sides highly appreciated cooperation during the 2025-2026 dry season. Despite increasingly limited information and difficult search conditions, K53 Team of Quảng Ngãi recovered the remains of six Vietnamese volunteer soldiers and experts in Ratanakiri.

Y Ngọc expressed sincere appreciation for the support of Ratanakiri authorities, armed forces and people. Every piece of information and support from Ratanakiri is therefore highly valuable.

Quảng Ngãi requested continued close coordination during the 2026-2027 dry season, including sharing and verifying information and locations and facilitating necessary procedures and field access for its search and recovery teams.

Vice Governor Ma Vi Chet affirmed that Ratanakiri authorities, armed forces and people would continue supporting K53 Team by providing information, verifying locations, guiding search teams, ensuring their safety and creating favorable conditions for their operations.

The two sides expressed confidence that, based on the longstanding friendship and solidarity between Việt Nam and Cambodia and the responsible cooperation between the two provincial committees, the search and recovery mission in the 2026-2027 dry season would achieve positive results, helping return fallen soldiers to their homeland and fulfilling the aspirations of their families and people of both countries.

The two committees agreed to regularly exchange information on search progress and emerging issues and coordinate to ensure the safety of recovery teams.

They also signed a coordination agreement on the search, recovery and repatriation of the remains of Vietnamese volunteer soldiers and experts during the 2026-2027 dry season. Quảng Ngãi will maintain two search and recovery teams in Ratanakiri, with operations scheduled to run from August 28, 2026, to May 31, 2027.
