According to the National Steering Committee, ministries and coastal provinces have continued implementing the Prime Minister’s directives on combating IUU fishing, achieving positive results.

The meeting reviewed progress on building and connecting fisheries management databases, monitoring fishing vessels, handling violations, and improving the traceability of aquatic products.

In Quảng Ngãi, the Provincial People’s Committee directed relevant agencies and localities to take urgent and specific measures to eliminate IUU fishing, focusing on vessel registration, licensing, and strict inspection at ports.

Authorities have been ordered to penalize vessels violating VMS (Vessel Monitoring System) regulations and to ensure unqualified boats are sealed and prevented from operating.

During the past week, provincial agencies fined 79 violations totaling VNĐ 5.6 billion.

Concluding the meeting, Deputy Prime Minister Trần Hồng Hà emphasized the need for stronger coordination among ministries and localities, regular progress reviews, and concrete action plans to completely prevent and end IUU fishing activities.
