On October 28, Vice Chairman of the Provincial People’s Committee Đỗ Tâm Hiển chaired a meeting with the Department of Agriculture and Environment and related agencies on strengthening measures to combat illegal, unreported, and unregulated (IUU) fishing in the province.
The Vice Chairman emphasized that combating IUU fishing is an urgent and key task requiring the involvement of the entire political system and continued communication to raise fishermen’s awareness.
According to the Department of Agriculture and Environment, Quảng Ngãi currently has 4,857 registered fishing vessels, of which 4,719 are licensed for operation. Functional forces are monitoring 138 unqualified vessels to ensure they anchor properly and do not violate foreign waters.

Since early 2024, 391 violations have been handled, with total fines of nearly VNĐ 19.6 billion.
Seafood traceability has been implemented at five fishing ports: Tịnh Kỳ, Tịnh Hòa, Lý Sơn, Mỹ Á, and Sa Huỳnh, with over 4,300 tons verified since the beginning of the year.
Concluding the meeting, Vice Chairman Đỗ Tâm Hiển requested the Department of Agriculture and Environment to promptly complete pending tasks, strengthen management of high-risk vessels, and ensure strict compliance with the Government’s Decision No. 3210/QĐ-TTg dated October 17, 2025 on sustainable fisheries management.
