Quảng Ngãi has built a reputation with branded OCOP products such as Lý Sơn garlic and Trà Bồng cinnamon. Following the provincial merger, the province is expanding its development of specialty OCOP products, including Ngọc Linh ginseng, highland coffee, and macadamia, while improving quality, value chain linkage, and market access.
Ngọc Linh ginseng
The western region of Quảng Ngãi currently has 280 OCOP products, including 20 four-star and the rest three-star, many associated with medicinal plants and traditional spices. Businesses like Central Highlands Medicinal Herbs Co., Ltd. are investing in research and modern technology to produce high-value herbal products, with several achieving four-star OCOP standards.
Currently, Quảng Ngãi has 642 valid OCOP products, including 2 five-star, 46 four-star, and 592 three-star.
With more than 800,000 hectares of forest, including 500,000 hectares of natural forest, the province has favorable ecosystems for developing high-tech agriculture tied to specialty crops such as Ngọc Linh ginseng, highland coffee, and macadamia.
Quảng Ngãi is home to 853 medicinal plant species, 30 of which have high market demand, and around 25 are widely cultivated with strong economic value. Notably, Ngọc Linh ginseng stands out as a unique, premium variety compared to other ginseng types.
For the 2025–2030 term, Quảng Ngãi has set the priority of developing organic agriculture with a focus on regional specialties, positioning medicinal herbs, especially Ngọc Linh ginseng, as a spearhead sector. The goal is to make Quảng Ngãi one of Việt Nam’s key medicinal herb regions, supplying raw materials for the domestic pharmaceutical industry and exports.
This direction not only aligns with the province’s natural conditions but also opens opportunities for sustainable economic development in western Quảng Ngãi, home to many ethnic minority communities.
