QUẢNG NGÃI — The People’s Committee of Quảng Ngãi Province has issued Plan No. 53/KH-UBND on ocean plastic waste management for the 2026–2030 period.
The plan aims to contribute to Việt Nam’s international commitments and initiatives on tackling plastic pollution, with a focus on marine plastic waste.
It seeks to prevent plastic discharge from both land-based sources and maritime activities, and to help make Việt Nam a regional pioneer in reducing ocean plastic waste.
The programme is aligned with the National Strategy on Integrated Solid Waste Management to 2025, with a vision to 2050, and the Government’s strategy on sustainable exploitation of marine resources and environmental protection to 2030.
It also promotes a circular economy approach by encouraging collection, recycling and reuse of plastic waste, while raising public awareness and reducing single-use plastics and non-biodegradable bags.
By 2030, Quảng Ngãi targets to reduce marine plastic waste by 70 per cent, ensure 100 per cent collection and treatment of plastic waste at beaches, tourist sites and marine protected areas, and collect all discarded or lost fishing gear.
The province also aims to eliminate single-use plastics in coastal and island tourism facilities, hold at least two annual beach clean-up campaigns, and make Lý Sơn Marine Protected Area free of plastic waste.
