Quảng Ngãi - Vice Chairman of the Provincial People’s Committee Trần Phước Hiền on August chaired a meeting on waste collection and treatment in Quảng Ngãi province.
The meeting was attended by leaders of relevant departments, local authorities, and related enterprises.
According to the Department of Agriculture and Environment, Quảng Ngãi generated about 800 tons of household solid waste per day in 2024, of which around 580 tons (72.5 per cent) were collected and treated.
Waste is currently handled by environmental service companies, cooperatives, and local sanitation teams.
The province operates two waste treatment plants, one landfill, and one incineration and landfill facility, while some sites are still used for temporary disposal.
Additional projects are under construction but not yet operational.
Vice Chairman Hiền emphasized that waste collection and treatment is an urgent and critical issue.
He called on localities to take greater responsibility in coordinating with assigned agencies, and urged waste collection and treatment units to fully comply with their contracts and provide timely support to local authorities.
The Department of Finance was tasked with organizing bidding, addressing outstanding collection and treatment costs, and updating cost norms.
The Department of Agriculture and Environment was requested to accelerate the progress of ongoing projects and issue waste treatment pricing standards.
The Land Fund Development Center was assigned to coordinate estimates and ensure consistent cost norms across the province.
Vice Chairman Hiền stressed the need to mobilize resources, support investors in removing obstacles for waste treatment plant projects, and ensure environmental safety and sustainability for the province.
