Tò Vò Gate on Lý Sơn Island recognized as National Scenic Relic

On September 9, the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism officially recognized Tò Vò Gate, a unique natural rock arch on Lý Sơn Island, Quảng Ngãi province, as a national scenic relic.

Tò Vò Gate

Formed by volcanic eruptions and thousands of years of sea wave erosion, the arch spans 9 meters in length and rises 2.5 meters in height. Located on the western side of Big Island, Tò Vò Gate has long been a popular destination for visitors and photographers.

Covering a protected area of 26,000 square meters, the site includes the main arch and surrounding basalt rock terraces. Experts note that its formation is closely linked to the volcanic origins of Lý Sơn Island, dating back millions of years. The surrounding ecosystem, rich in marine life and coral reefs, further enhances the site’s natural beauty.

With this recognition, Tò Vò Gate becomes part of Lý Sơn’s valuable geological and cultural heritage.

Quảng Ngãi authorities emphasize the importance of preserving the rock arch and its ecosystem, while also proposing infrastructure improvements to better serve tourists.

Lý Sơn Island, located about 30 km off the Quảng Ngãi mainland, is a frontline island associated with Việt Nam’s maritime sovereignty. It is home to nearly 50 cultural and historical relics, including six national relics and two intangible cultural heritages, making it a rising highlight on Việt Nam’s tourism map.
