Vice Chairman of the Provincial People’s Committee, Trần Phước Hiền, on September 18 conducted a field inspection of the Sand Barrier and Wave Reduction Breakwater, and Dredging for Access Channel to Sa Huỳnh Fishing Port Shelter project, located in Sa Huỳnh Ward.
He was accompanied by representatives from the Department of Construction, the Department of Finance, the Department of Agriculture and Environment, the Provincial Transport Construction Investment Project Management Board, and the Sa Huỳnh Ward People’s Committee.
The project, managed by the Provincial Transport Construction Investment Project Management Board, consists of key components including: construction of a 300-meter northern sand barrierand wave reduction breakwater; dredging of an access channel nearly 2 kilometers long leading into the storm shelter and fishing port; and installation of a buoy and signal system.
The project is funded with a total investment of VNĐ 250 billion, sourced from the provincial budget.
According to the Project Management Board, the sand barrier and wave reduction structure has been completed ahead of schedule and handed over to the Department of Agriculture and Environment for operation since June 2025.
Meanwhile, dredging of the access channel has already ensured safe navigation for fishing vessels entering and leaving the estuary.
The remaining dredging works will be completed once an appropriate dumping site for dredged materials is identified.
During the inspection and discussions with relevant agencies, Vice Chairman Trần Phước Hiền commended the project’s management, noting that the sand barrier and wave reduction component was completed 12 months ahead of the contractual schedule.
Regarding the dredging component, which faces challenges in determining a dumping site, the Vice Chairman instructed the project owner to urgently coordinate with Sa Huỳnh Ward and related departments to conduct surveys, identify a suitable disposal site, and propose the Provincial People's Committee for consideration and approval.
He emphasized that the project owner and Sa Huỳnh Ward authorities should also explore the reuse of dredged sand for land leveling, thereby creating clean land reserves to support local socio-economic development.
