On July 23, provincial leaders of Quảng Ngãi held a solemn incense offering ceremony to commemorate the 140th death anniversary of patriotic scholar Lê Trung Đình (July 23, 1885 – July 23, 2025).
Attending the ceremony were Member of the Party Central Committee and Secretary of the Provincial Party Committee Bùi Thị Quỳnh Vân, Alternate Member of the Party Central Committee, Standing Deputy Secretary of the Provincial Party Committee, Head of the provincial National Assembly Delegation, and Chairman of the provincial Việt Nam Fatherland Front Committee U Huấn, Deputy Secretary of the Provincial Party Committee and Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee Nguyễn Hoàng Giang, other provincial leaders, and representatives of departments and localities.
Born in 1857 in Phú Nhuận village, Bình Sơn district (now Trương Quang Trọng ward, Quảng Ngãi province), Lê Trung Đình was a pioneering intellectual and leader in the Cần Vương movement against French colonial rule in Central Việt Nam.
His uprising in Quảng Ngãi in 1885, though short-lived and led mainly by peasants and patriotic scholars, became a historic symbol of indomitable spirit and national pride.
Captured during the struggle, Lê Trung Đình was executed by French forces on July 23, 1885, at the age of 28.
In his honor, Quảng Ngãi province was renamed Lê Trung Đình province for a short time after the August Revolution in 1945. Today, several streets and schools in the province bear his name.
The memorial ceremony serves not only as a tribute but also as a reminder to arouse national pride and strengthen faith in the country's path of renewal and development.
