On the evening of November 6, ahead of Typhoon Kalmaegi (Storm No. 13) making landfall, Deputy Prime Minister Trần Hồng Hà chaired an emergency online meeting with leaders of Gia Lai, Quảng Ngãi, and Khánh Hòa provinces, as well as the National Steering Committee for Natural Disaster Prevention and Control and the National Centre for Hydro-Meteorological Forecasting, to review evacuation plans and ensure public and infrastructure safety.
The Deputy Prime Minister urged localities to carry out complete and decisive evacuation measures to protect residents, stressing that no one should remain in unsafe areas when the storm hits.
At the Quảng Ngãi site, Vice Chairman of the Provincial People’s Committee Đỗ Tâm Hiển presides over the meeting.
Quảng Ngãi Province has activated its Level-4 emergency response plan, the highest alert level, under the motto “Protecting people’s lives above all else.”
Military, police, border guard, and sectoral forces have been mobilised to inspect vulnerable areas, with five working teams deployed to oversee preparedness in southern localities expected to be hardest hit.
Chairman of the Provincial People’s Committee, Nguyễn Hoàng Giang, inspected evacuation operations in Long Phụng Commune and visited evacuees at Đức Lợi Primary School, encouraging residents to comply with evacuation orders and only return home once safety is ensured.
He directed local authorities to urgently relocate people in coastal and low-lying areas, stockpile food, water, and essential supplies, and maintain round-the-clock readiness.
In the western region, Standing Vice Chairwoman of the Provincial People’s Committee, Y Ngọc, held a meeting with local departments and armed forces to check emergency preparedness, urging all units to stay on 24-hour duty and place people’s safety and property protection as the top priority.
The provincial Military Command reinforced forces in mountainous and border communes prone to flash floods, while the Department of Construction prepared machinery to promptly clear roads and support rescue efforts after the storm.
Vice Chairman Nguyễn Ngọc Sâm, together with a working delegation, inspected local preparedness for Typhoon Kalmaegi (Storm No. 13) in Minh Long and Sơn Mai communes.
During the inspection, the Vice Chairman instructed local authorities to evacuate all residents from high-risk areas, ensuring that no one remains in landslide-prone zones, riverbanks, or flood-prone areas, to safeguard lives as the storm approaches.
He praised the proactive and swift response of local administrations and on-site forces.
Vice Chairman Sâm directed the two communes to continue reviewing residential areas near rivers, streams, and mountain slopes, install warning signs and barricades at dangerous sites and deploy personnel to guard and guide residents, preventing movement through flooded or landslide-prone zones.
Also on the evening, Vice Chairman Nguyễn Công Hoàng led a working delegation to inspect storm response efforts in several communes, including Trường Giang, Ba Gia, Sơn Tịnh, Thọ Phong, Trà Giang, Nghĩa Giang, and Vệ Giang.
He commended local authorities and armed forces for completing evacuations from dangerous areas and maintaining continuous on-duty operations.
Meanwhile, Vice Chairman Trần Phước Hiền visited Nghĩa Lộ and Đức Phổ wards and other communes to inspect the emergency measures.
He urged localities to complete all evacuations and ensure adequate supplies and medical support at evacuation sites, and maintain security and communication throughout the storm.
